It’s 2017 and more than half of the world’s population are the internet now. Apart from being connected to mobile networks or public WiFi hotspots, the next available source of internet (in most cases) is the home WiFi network. But it just doesn’t end there.
You have leeching neighbors and YouTube addicted roommates to handle as well. Imagine, you wake up one day to find that the internet pack has been drained dry. Man, that would be a nightmare.
The easy way to block ads on your Mac. Annoying ads like pop-ups, video ads, banners and ads disguised as content are things of the past thanks to Adblock Plus (ABP)! Safari users enjoy a peaceful and delightful web experience when using Adblock Plus, the world’s number 1 ad blocker. Open the SelfControl app using Spotlight or in the Applications folder. Click Edit Blacklist in the lower-right corner of the SelfControl app. Click the plus (+) button in the lower-left corner. Type the web address for the site you want to block and press Enter. Drag the slider bar to set the amount of time you want to block the. Spotlight stealthily runs in the system background and waits for regular users to enter a search query into the browser. Once a query is detected, Spotlight causes a chain of redirects. This app uses the Amazon AWS service to redirect users to searchbaron.com, which, in turn, redirects them to bing.com. These redirects may seem harmless, since. The apps should be removed from the list and will no longer start automatically when your Mac boots. Ticking the “Hide” checkbox on the left side of an item will still allow it to launch automatically, but the app’s window will not be visible in the foreground. That is, the apps will still open automatically, but its window will be hidden.

1. MAC Address Filtering in PC
Media Access Control or in simple terms, MAC Address are unique addresses assigned to a system by its manufacturer. Unlike IP Address, the MAC address of a system remains same throughout and doesn’t change. First, you’d need to obtain the MAC addresses of all the connected devices.
1. Scan Network
Wireless Network Watcher is a nifty app which can help you in scanning the devices connected to your WiFi. All you need to do is download the app and run the scan.
The scan which roughly takes only a couple of seconds to complete lists all the connected devices. Once done, double click on the trespassing MAC address and copy it to a clipboard.
2. Block MAC
Now that the MAC addresses have been noted, login to the router’s admin page, head over to the Wireless section. and select Wireless MAC Filter.
Once inside the page, choose Reject and match the MAC address against the one you have noted. Click on Apply and you are all set, to enjoy a distraction-free WiFi network.
Another alternative is to whitelist only the recognized devices. Select Accept and include only the familiar MAC addresses. Once saved, though the WiFi network will continue to show, no new device will be able to connect to your network.
So, the next time even if your neighbor manages to decipher your WiFi password, the whitelist feature will keep you safe.

2. Block Through Android
The second method makes use of a popular app called NetCut. A very popular app for analyzing WiFi connections, it’s catch is that it works only on rooted Android phones.
Once the superuser permission has been granted, NetCut will show all the available devices. Akin to the first method, you’ll need to obtain the MAC addresses first.
Now all you have to do is tap on the chosen address and slide the WiFi bar to zero. The best thing about this app is that the changes occur in real time which means that as soon as you slip the slider down, the connection to the user will cease.

If you're using Spotlight on Mac (Command + Spacebar) to quickly open an app, document, or photo—and it doesn't work—you may need to re-index Spotlight. Use this guide to fix Spotlight using Terminal on your Mac (plus a pro Spotlight tip). The solution works on any macOS version (tested on macOS High Sierra).
How to Fix Spotlight Search on macOS High Sierra with Terminal
Terminal is another way to control your Mac, and if you've never used it before, don't worry, this is a safe command to run (even if you have no idea what you're doing).
Open the Terminal app from your 'Applications' folder
Open the 'Utilities' folder and launch 'Terminal'
Copy and paste this command and press enter:

-Ecommand will 'Erase and rebuild index'—which is exactly what you want to do to fix the problem./means to start at your hard drives root directory, which will make it re-index everything on your hard drive.Other guides might have you try to delete the Spotlight files, which I think is unnecessary, and a huge risk if you're new to the command line tools (i.e.: Terminal).

Try searching for 'Safari' with Spotlight (

Note: You may have to wait longer your entire hard drive (and all the files) to be indexed, but apps should be indexed pretty quickly.
Symptoms of a Corrupt Spotlight on Mac
The telltale sign of a corrupt Spotlight is when you try to search for an app you use frequently using Spotlight, and it's not the first result (it might not even be in the list!).
Numerous times I'll try to open an app like TextMate, Evernote, or even Terminal, and the search results only show web pages, documents, and no apps.
Since I use my keyboard to launch apps quickly, this is a huge decrease in my productivity. The workaround is to use the Applications folder, or Launchpad to find the app I want to use.
Why Does Spotlight Search Break?
Spotlight will sometimes fail due to bugs in the macOS. On the initial launch of If you're experiencing this frequently, you should submit a bug to Apple at bugreport.apple.com.
Explain what happened, and they will follow up with you, and the bug will get fixed, rather than never getting fixed!
I submitted a bug #31646293, 'Spotlight loses index for apps that are updated from App Store,' on April 15th 2017, and Apple fixed it on July 11th 2017 (duplicate of bug #24109163).
I worked at Apple in the past, and they do read your bug reports, and they do fix issues when they know the problem exists.
Pro Spotlight Tip: Type Less
You can change the default search result if you start typing the first few letters, and then select the option you want with the arrow keys (or the mouse).
The next time you start typing 'Terminal' stop with the first three letters: 'Ter'. Try it:
- Open Spotlight from the top right corner icon (
Command+Spacebar) - Start typing 'Ter' (add more letters if you don't see Terminal in the list)
- Select Terminal
Now you've 're-trained' Spotlight for showing Terminal as the first result for 'Ter'.
