Photos App On Mac Not Opening

Posted on  by

Photos saved to a flash drive from a MAC won't open on my Windows PC I'm posting for a friend - and they are having issues opening photos from a flash drive their daughter gave them. Daughter loaded them from her camera onto her mac - and then transferred to a flash drive. They are using a windows based pc - but the photos are not showing up. However, many people reported Photo app for failing to open photos and pictures. While some of them encounter an „Invalid value for Registry“ error, the others can‘t find the Photos app among „Open with“ app options. If you are facing the latter problem, then try to open photos using the following methods: Method 1. Restore Photo Viewer.

Back up your library

  1. The first thing you should do is to double-check whether the iCloud Photo Library is enabled on both your iPhone, and your Mac. If not, only the images that are in the Camera Roll will show when you connect the device to your Mac. If iCloud Photo Library is enabled, the photos will be automatically stored in iCloud for safe keeping.
  2. Question: Q: Photos app won't open in Mac OS X I'm running OS X 10.11.6 and my photos app won't open. I've tried quitting the app and then holding down command/alt option to open the repair library and nothing happens.

Before following any of these steps, it's a good idea to create a backup of your photo library, even if you use iCloud Photos. You can use Time Machine, use a third-party backup solution, or copy the library to an external drive. By default, your photo library is stored in the Pictures folder within your home folder.

If the Media Browser isn't showing your photos and videos

Use the Media Browser to make images from your photo library available in other apps, like Pages and iMovie. The Media Browser shows only the contents of the Photos library designated as the System Photo Library. If you have more than one Photos library—and the one you're using isn't set as the System Photo Library—the Media Browser won't show its contents.

  4. Give your new library a name, then click OK. Note whether Photos opens successfully with this new library.

To return to your main Photos library, quit Photos. Then open it again while holding the Option key, select your main library, and click Choose Library.

Alternatively, you can open Photos in another user account on your Mac and note whether Photos opens successfully.
